Happy New Year!

I just realized how long it has been since I have actually blogged! We had a very busy December, with Joe's semester (and my semester) wrapping up and getting ready to go to Texas for Christmas.

On the Sunday before Christmas we had Christmas with Georgiann and then after she left we celebrated with my parents. Nathan got lots of fun stuff and he enjoyed being with Georgiann! he LOVES her! Since I has school through the 23rd (CRAZY!) we didn't leave for Texas until the 24th. Our flight left at 8:10 a.m. and we got in at noon so it wasn't too bad. I have to say, it is much easier to tavel to Texas (and travel at Christmas time in general) when you don't live in California (or when you actually go to the correct airport-a story for another time). We started off Christmas by going to Joe's Uncle Herman's house. We always enjoy Christmas Eve at Uncle Herman's because we get to see the entire family. We were only missing a few people this year. Nathan's cousin Elizabeth was there, too! She is only a day older than Nathan so they had fun playing with each other. They were both just learning to walk, so it was cute to watch them try to chase after each other. On Christmas morning we all got up and opened gifts. It was extra special this year because Joe's brother Geoffrey, his wife Vielka, and their daughter Genevieve I. were in town, too. We all exchanged gifts and then Joe's dad made brunch. He made a Mexican style brunch of eggs mixed with beans and tortillas. It was so good and it was awesome to have REAL tortillas! (We even brought some back to St. Louis with us!) Christmas evening the whole family came over to Joe's parents' house to have dinner. It was a lot of fun, again! We ate and played a game. We spent the day after Christmas shopping, relaxing, and going to Pilo's (one of our favorite Mexican restaurants in the Valley that happened to have live music that night). Late Saturday night Joe's sister Genevieve E. came into town for a quick visit to see everyone. It was so great to see her since we haven't seen her since we were in Houston for Eva's wedding almost 2 years ago! Joe's parents bought her Cake Boss for Christmas so we spent the majority of the evening watching that and talking. Sunday Genevieve E. left and we all relaxed some more. Joe's parents had a family over for dinner. Joe's dad had all of the kids in class and one of the kids is at Baylor now, so we all had fun talking. Monday Geoffrey and family left and after that we spent the majority of the time around the house just relaxing and playing with Nathan until we left on Wednesday morning. It was such a great trip. We always love going to the Valley so that we can have time away from our busy schedules and just relax. Nathan became a pro at walking while we were there and learned many new things. He can now blow kisses (thanks to Aunt Vielka), wave and say "hi" at the same time, say grandpa, raise his hands above his head and say "all done" (ahh-daa), say baba (which Joe figured out this morning means his sippy cup), and he can officially operate a mouse trap! :) Here are a few pictures from our Christmas Celebrations.

He LOVED her dogs. He just squealed everytime he saw them!Playing in Nana's rag drawer! He LOVED pulling all of the rags out and then watching us put them all back-ha!We went out to eat with my aunt Vickie (my dad's sister), my cousin Allie, and Vickie's husband Joe. They live in McAllen which is only about an hour away from Los Fresnos, so we drove over to eat with them at Red Lobster. I haven't seen any of them since my grandma died in 2001, so it was really nice for them to meet "my" Joe and Nathan.Nathan and Aunt Vickie. Nathan's funny look is because he is mad at me for taking the toy out of his mouth so that I could get his picture. At the airport with Nana and Grandpa. I know Nathan isn't looking but it is such a good picture of Joe's parents so I had to post this one!Last night for New Year's Eve we went out to dinner with the Krenns to Pi (a pizza restaurant) and then back to their house so that Noah, Emory, and Nathan could play. The kids played so well together. It was really the first time they played together. It was really cute. We put them in the play room and had fun standing back and watching them interact. I know that they will all three be such great friends!

2 more days off and then it is back to school! Even though my break was so short, it was definitely my favorite Christmas break ever and really it couldn't have come at a better time. Nathan was just learning to walk at the beginning of it, so Joe and I really got to watch him learn how to walk over break and see him to do so many new things. He is always smiling and laughing. He is so much fun! I sure am going to miss him next week!
