Today on the way home from church, I asked Nathan what his Sunday School lesson was about. (I knew it was about Jonah because he brought home a "picture" that he colored during Sunday School of Jonah and the whale. Here is how our conversation went:
Me: Nathan, what was your Sunday School lesson about today? Was it about Jonah?
N: Yes! He went into the sink.
Me: The sink?
N: Yes, the sink!
Me: Did he go into the whale?
N: Yes! The whale chewed him up.
Me: Chewed him up?
N: Uh, huh.
Joe: Did he get stay in the whale?
N: It was sticky.
Me: It was sticky?
N: Uh, huh. It was very sticky!
This afternoon my parents came by to pick him up to spend the night. We asked Nathan to tell them the story about Jonah again. Here is how it came out this time:
Me: Nathan, tell Mimi and Bapa what your Sunday School lesson was about today.
N: It was about Jonah!
Mimi: What happened to Jonah?
N: He sinked.
Mimi: He did? Then what happened?
N: He got swallowed by the whale and it was very sticky!
Mimi: It was sticky? Did he get stuck?
N: Yes, he did!
Mimi: And the reason he got stuck was because God asked him to do something and he didn't do it so God had the whale swallow him because he wouldn't listen. Then, Jonah said he would do what God asked him to do so God made the whale spit him out. So see, you always need to listen to...
N: (interrupting and pointing to each of us as he says our name) To Mommy, and Daddoe, and Mimi, and Brother, and Bapa, and Mommy, and Daddoe, and Mimi...
Mimi: Yes, you always need to follow directions (or something similar-Mom, help me out on this one).
N: Uh, huh, I always need to obey!!
WHAT?!?! He knew follow directions was the same as obeying. He is such a funny guy!!
Happy 8th Birthday, Sammy!
